Impact of the media

Media is a very convenient way to express ourselves and also a way to entertain ourselves. Media makes  events and chatting much easier now that we can always have it around us no matter what time of day. The saying, Too much of a good thing is bad, definitely applies to media. The convenience limits many other opportunities and also has us glued to the internet all day. Media definitely is deeply ingrained in how we do many of our daily things, from school to talking to friends, there are many examples in which they are used and with to much exposure to it we eventually also need a time to rest from it.
Everyone has a bad habit to stay constantly looking at their phone in this day and age, and don't realize that they spend more time on the internet than with their friends and family. It is rare to see someone without a phone or a house without internet because media is a large part of how we live. "We're becoming unsocial, it no longer satisfies to engage one another and look into someone's eyes. We're surrounded by children who since they were born, watched us living like robots and thinks its the norm." (Gary Trunk, Look Up) People have been around media and technology for so long it's starting to get worse with each coming generation and we all start to stay in more than we go out and hang out with our friends or accompany our parents with things they have to do or parties.
Since everyone was a child, media was a part of our development and effected how we grew up. Television being a prime example, from watching "Sesame Street" to watching "Pokemon",  these TV shows have effected our development whether we like it or not."Excessive television watching may have a deleterious effect on learning and academic performance." (PMC)  Things like TV shows can change a generation and cause many people grow up differently and this also contributes to how much we stay in to watch TV shows such as those mentioned. Media is a huge contributor to procrastination because there are many things we could be doing. "While many businesses use social networking sites to find and communicate with clients, the sites can also prove a great distraction to employees who may show more interest in what their friends are posting than their work tasks."(Jung, Demand Media)

Media may be a good thing right now but as time goes on, coming generations will become more and more attached to technology and media, this will cause many problems with communicating outside of a network. It also causes problems if we stay on to long due to our own interests. At the end of the day, it's about we accomplished and if media is what holds us back from that, then we need to find out how to prioritize our time away from media.
